This is a warning here, you'll find these films in the bargain section of Woolworths or anyother shop usually £3 or less...I strongly recommend you avoid these films like the plague. They are easily noticeable (especially with the Horror titles) because they have "US UNRATED DIRECTORS CUT" slapped right across the top and frequently they have BASED ON TRUE EVENTS next to it. Sometimes they don't have them but you'll notice them e.g: Transmorphers, I am Omega, 100 Million BC. These sound like any big budget block busters? Exactly, there will be poor souls who mistake these films for the actual films they're looking for, therefore wasting their valuble pocket change (Trust me you'd miss that change you probably could've bought a Pepsi with, after seeing one of these films). That's possibly a reason why these are made, also to cash in on the success of these movies.
I fell victim to these madmen, with this "movie" called: "Nightmare Hostel" aka "Dr. Rage" aka "The Straun House" I saw the cover and thought "Wow this looks awesome, it has a warning on the cover due to violence and says Creates a new level of gruesome beyond that of Roths Hostel and Gordons Re-Animator, I gotta get this. Only £3, whats the catch? Must be an old-ish film." Well the movie is absolute horror and not in the good way, the acting for starters is awful, the film is so low-budget that when these guys are drinking coffee you can easily tell they're not drinking anything. Now the "story", the cover and the back claimed it was about a medical instituion which conducted twisted experiments on the patients and tortured them and all other nasty things (House on Haunted Hill, Hostel?) It's actually quite the opposite, it follows this man who goes to the institution to do research there or something like that where he gets injected with this liquid which looks remarkably similar to the liquid in Re-Animator and his behaviour begins changing and blah blah. His nurse and he find out something is wrong with the head doctor guy and they investigate him or whatever, it's filled with numerous plot holes and many rip-offs of other horror movies. Now the gore! That was the reason I bought it, to be grossed out and disturbed and there is nothing until the last five minutes of the film which isn't anything remotely shocking and was so badly carried out it was laughable. Then the ending, it leaves it open for a sequel and the way it was done was EXTREMLEY similar to the ending of Re-Animator...
Overal Verdict: 1/10
I strongly urge you all to avoid these films, if you see a film which sounds like the latest block buster in the bargain section, ignore it's exsistence spend your pocket change on something more productive...or save it. Heres the cover:
