A Nightmare on Elm Street (Remake)

Mentioned it in the remake topic so I thought might aswell put a thread up for it...Well it's currently scheduled for a release of 2010 and the director was originally this guy called "Wesley Strick" but apparently he's not anymore. We all know the story and who Freddy is so no point explaining. According to the man himself Robert Englund; Billy Bob Thornton will be playing Freddy and he thinks that's a great casting choice. Wes Craven will be the co-producer and most likely executive producer taking care of the film because this really made him a master of horror and he calls his films "his babies" and the remakes "his grandchildren", apparently though they're taking a psychological approach which has got most horror fans worried because they don't want it watered down for a younger audience and I'm a bit worried about that myself actually.

EDIT: Apparently now Billy Bob Thornton is no longer playing Freddy and this was just a rumour. It's now back to square one...

He'll just be producing, all they gotta do is give money for the project sometimes executive producer is just an honoury title they don't have to do anything usually.

The legend that is Robert Englund said that he's not going to play Freddy because it may confuse audiences and they may think it's a sequel. Also he said it will be interesting seeing someone else play Freddy.

Personally I'd prefer it if they just scrapped all plans for the remake and carried on with the original series, either carrying on from Freddy vs. Jason or New Nightmare, mainly because Freddy looked so cool in that with the trench coat and five bladed glove.

If they ever do get around to making a Freddy vs Jason 2, I hope they don't add in another horror icon which was planned...that would screw it up completely.

A writer and director has been announced.
Wesley Strick is writing the script and some guy called Samuel Bayer is directing, filming is scheduled to start April 27th yet they don't have a single cast member!

From what I've read on IMDb due to the Bloody-Disgusting casting call people would like Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) to play Freddy, I think he would be great actually he has a Freddy look about him.
