From the start billy had a”Hot and Heavy” relationship with sid,his friend stu is like his best mate. After finding out that his dad had been with sids mother he was far from impressed, this no doubt helped him agree with romans plan to kill maureen prescott.

Originally a girlfriend of stu, casey started seeing steven orth. no doubt this helped stus mood change to “Evil” so he could carry out her murder easier! Casey liked horror movies but it didnt matter because she would have been killed anyway!

A Woodsboro High Student who started seeing Casey, After arranging to see Casey for a "Movies night" Steve unfourtanately falls victim to a masked fugure and ends up in the back garden of caseys house instead of inside her front room! The first Victim which started all the madness!

Accused of murdering sids mother at first, cotton spent over a year in prison for a murder he didnt commit! All cotton wants is to tell the world his side of the story to get it straight so everyone knows the truth.

Kenny is a cameraman for gail and a bit too slow for her liking sometimes. He knows that gail is a bit bitchy but puts up with it for some reason. He knows his stuff with cameras but cant always get one without a delay!

The husband of Sids mother "Maureen" It seems that Neil was totally Clueless about her past and her affairs with other men, apart from Cotton which people knew about,Almost a victim himself,Neil falls in the killers hands for bait to be framed for the murders which take place in Woodsboro!

Mr Loomis seems an innocent father at first until we reach the end of "Scream" Its in the third film we discover videos of him too waiting around for Maureen and having his affair behind his wifes back! Not so Innocent as he first looks when we see him.

Principal Himbry is Head of Woodsboro high school and tries his best to keep it efficient and "Murder free" but when Students start running round the halls in Costumes he doesnt like it. The student generation disgusts him in some ways and he thinks they should have more respect.

Comments:
My personal opinion is that this "Soundtrack Album" is a good listen, Since buying it back in the late 90`s i STILL listen to it to this day! Songs that arent annoying or too stupid or with lyrics that are either too fast to understand or too slow to wait to listen to. A few songs on there that not everyone notices in the movies though, not unless you really listen out for them!

"Original Score"

My overall Rating:10/10
Rank 5

A very good Score here. Caseys Alternate death track is worth a listen, you have to be patient to listen to most of these though with "Build-ups" Etc.... The most common known track here has to be "Trouble In Woodsboro" which is the main theme when Tatum tells Sid about casey and steves deaths..
Also used in "Scream 2" as "Trouble at Windsor College" and slightly faster too...

Scream Location 1
Scream: Woodsboro town square.. Healdsburg,Northern California

Scream location 2 pic
Scream: The bloodbath mansion: Tomales

In Santa Rosa itself is the video store, where film buff Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) works, which is Bradley Video, 3080 Marlow Road, Santa Rosa.
The mansion where the climactic bloodbath takes place is to the west, almost to the coast. It's a private house, overlooking Tomales, Hwy1, just east of town, south from the Petaluma Road. At the time of filming, the house was empty, but it's now renovated and occupied, so please respect the owners' privacy.

Funworld MaskKnb Scream mask

The mask was first seen by Wes Craven and his crew while scouting for locations for the first film..
It represented the painting by "Edvard Munch" called "The Scream" and was used as the first films mask after deciding it was just what they wanted.

The mask was made by a company known as KNB..The mask itself is alot flatter than the others and was finally put to one side as Craven decided to use a mask made by "Fun World" instead, this would cost money, but in the end it paid off... LITERALLY!!
The only scenes that used the "KNB Mask" where Caseys and Himbreys death scenes. So throughout the rest of the film it was the "Highly remembered and still bought" Funworld mask.
Although i myself think the "KNB mask" was also used for the scene in the shop where tatum and sid talk about billy and the party, and also when the killer appears in the bushes after hearing sid and tatum talk about cotton and maureen on tatums porch..If you look close im sure its the "KNB" mask!!

The robe itself is made of a thick metallic material that IS shiny.
The bottom of the robe is cut into small triangles and also holds together at the front with velcro from the neck to the waist...

SCREAM FACT:
Apart from Tatum calling the killer "Mr Ghostface" in the garage scene,we dont really hear or know of the killer as "Ghostface"

I thank "Nick Meece" for help on some of the information on here... With him being in the USA he knows some stuff that i didnt know regarding "KNB" and certain changes to the mask throughout the trilogy..plus he has had the good fortune to see a REAL Scream costume!! Lucky lad!!! THANKS Nick!!!

Trivia : Some interesting stuff here all for this movie.

Cameo: [Linda Blair] the reporter who says, "People want to know, they have a right to know."

* When Sidney comes out of the closet and stabs Billy with an umbrella, the stunt man was supposed to hit a pad on Skeet Ulrich's chest. The first hit got the pad but the second one slipped and hit him in the chest (you can see it in his reaction). Wes Craven kept it in because of its authenticity.

* To keep 'Drew Barrymore' looking scared and crying, director Wes Craven kept telling her real life stories about animal cruelty. She is a keen animal lover in real life.

* William Faulkner's novel "As I Lay Dying" (1930) features a character named Skeet McGowan (Scream features actors Skeet Ulrich and Rose McGowan) and a character named Dewey just as Scream does.

* Wes Craven found the mask in a store while location-scouting in California.

* When the killer smashes his head through a window and Casey hits him in the face with the phone, Wes Craven is actually wearing the costume and was really hit in the face.

When Bob Weinstein watched parts of the first scenes filmed (rough cuts), he said that the mask used was "idiotic". He asked the producers to film one scene with seven different masks and let him choose the one he liked the most. Producers didn't agree and threatened to shut down production. They told him to wait until the first sequence ('Drew Barrymore' 's) was completed and then he could decide. After watching it, he happily agreed to the mask used and didn't make another complaint for the rest of the filming.

Rose McGowan discovered that she could actually fit through a pet flap.

Drew Barrymore was originally cast as Sidney Prescott (eventually played by Neve Campbell). But Drew Barrymore insisted that if she played Casey then it would make the audience think anything could happen.

Melissa Joan Hart auditioned for the role of Sidney Prescott.

* The film was originally to be shot at a high school in Santa Rosa, CA, but after the school board read the script they objected to the violent nature and production was moved to Healdsburg, CA.

* The special effects artists used about 50 gallons of blood.

* Tatum's house is right across the street from the house in Santa Rosa, California used in Pollyanna (1960). It is also across the street from the house used in Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943). The house in the opening scene was next door to the house used in Cujo (1983).

* Billy's surname, Loomis, is the same as that of Donald Pleasance's character in Halloween (1978), which in turn was the name of Marion Crane's lover in Psycho (1960).

* The beginning of the movie is much like When a Stranger Calls (1979).

* A poster of Jamie Lee Curtis (known as the 'Scream Queen' after Halloween (1978)) for the film Mother's Boys (1994) is shown prominently at the video store. Another film of hers, Trading Places (1983) is mentioned.

* Janeane Garofalo turned down the role of Gail Weathers.

* On "The Directors" (2007), David Arquette revealed that he presumptuously turned down the role of "Billy" in favor for playing "Dewey", which was originally written as a hunky, leading man part.

* As revealed on "The Directors" (2007), Wes Craven originally turned down "Scream" because it was too violent, but reconsidered making one more gory movie for the hungry fans who continually told him that he last best movie was The Hills Have Eyes (1977).

* Being a favorite of the writer Kevin Williamson, Molly Ringwald was offered the role of Sydney Prescott, but turned it down, saying she'd rather not be playing a high school student at the age of 27.

* The song "Don't Fear the Reaper" can be heard; in Halloween (1978), Annie and Laurie listen to it in the car.

* When Sidney is going into her house, the killer comes out of the closet the same way Michael Myers comes out of the closet after Bob in Halloween (1978).

* When Casey's parents come home and see that something is wrong, her father says to her mother, "Go down the street to the Mackenzies' house..." which is a quote from Halloween (1978).

* When Billy (who looks like Johnny Depp) sneaks into Sidney's room in a manner similar to a scene where Depp's character does something similar in _Nightmare On Elm Street, A (1984)_.

* Casey hanging from the tree looks like the opening of Suspiria (1977).

* The school janitor Fred (played by Wes Craven) can be seen wearing Freddy Krueger's outfit from A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

* Tatum wears a jersey with the number 10 on it. This is the same thing Johnny Depp's character wore in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

* Casey claims that all of the sequels to _Nightmare On Elm Street, A (1984)_ "sucked". Wes Craven sold the rights to sequels before the film was released and became a success and disliked many of the sequels. See also: A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985).

* The mask is based on the painting "Scream" by Edvard Munch.

* The cheerleader in the washroom scene was played by one of Skeet Ulrich's girlfriends.

* Matthew Lillard (Stu) add-libbed the line "Ah... Houston, we have a problem" when he discovered that the gun was gone.

* David Arquette's sister Patricia Arquette starred in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) written and produced by director Wes Craven.

* The Jiffy Pop popcorn in the first scene acts as a clock. It goes from normal to out of control as does the scene

* A videotape box of the film Clerks. (1994) is visible during the close-up of the miniature camera that Gale has left behind during the final party sequence. Having been released by Miramax, the parent company of Dimension Films (which released "Scream"), "Clerks" director Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes reprise their roles from the View Askewniverse as Silent Bob and Jay, respectively, for a cameo in Scream 3 (2000).

* These are the horror film rules as stated in the movie: - 1. You will not survive if you have sex - 2. You will not survive if you drink or do drugs - 3. You will not survive if you say "I'll be right back" - 4. Everyone is a suspect. - Two additional rules come from the killer: - 5. You will not survive if you ask "Who's there?" - 6. You will not survive if you go out to investigate a strange noise.

* Kevin Williamson's screenplay caused a bidding war in Hollywood.

* Kevin Patrick Walls, who plays Drew Barrymore's ill-fated boyfriend, was given this small part as compensation for not getting the role of Billy.

* The opening with Drew Barrymore lasts for 12 minutes.

* Marco Beltrami landed scoring duties after Wes Craven''s assistant was on an Internet chat site, asking if anyone knew of any fresh musical talent.

* The use of caller ID increased more than threefold after the release of this film.

* When Casey is trying to answer the "Jason...It's Jason" question in an attempt to save her boyfriend's life, you can hear a light musical score homage to John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) theme.

* 'Drew Barrymore' and Neve Campbell did not meet Roger Jackson, the actor who played "the Voice" before shooting commenced. Whenever they are talking on the phone to the killer, they are actually talking to him.

* Two plugs for Kevin Smith's Clerks. (1994). A poster for the film can be seen in the video store and the Video Box can be seen sitting on top of the VCR when everyone is watching John Carpenter's Halloween (1978).

* Rose McGowan dyed her hair blonde in order to contrast her black hair from Neve Campbell's.

* The MPAA wanted to cut out the graphic shot of the killer stabbing Casey Becker at the beginning, but director Craven claimed it was the only take of it they had filmed (which wasn't true). The shot remained intact.

* The bathroom that Sidney is attacked in is the same one used on the "Stab 3" set in Scream 3 (2000).

* The production moved to the Sonoma Community Center in the City of Sonoma for the high school scenes. It was always scheduled to be shot in the Healdsburg area.

* Originally titled "Scary Movie" which was later used for a parody of the Scream and other pop culture horror films like it.

* Reese Witherspoon turned down the lead role.

* The killer was based on a Florida serial killer, the "Gainesville Ripper".

* Joseph Whipp who played Deputy Burke, was also in the original _Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)_, where he played a cop named Sergeant Parker.

* Melinda Clarke turned down the role of Tatum Riley.

* Rebecca Gayheart auditioned for the role of Tatum Riley, but scheduling conflicts with her film Somebody Is Waiting (1996) prevented her from landing the role. She later turned up in Scream 2 (1997) playing a sorority sister.

* Charlotte Ayanna was considered for the role of Tatum Riley.

* The scene where the killer is sneaking up behind Randy is the only one where the person in the costume is actually one of the actors rather than a stunt man. Skeet Ulrich has specifically asked if he could wear the costume for once scene.

* The idea of the pet door in the garage came from Williamson's assistant. Originally, Tatum's death scene was to be a fist fight with the killer, and having the door come down on her neck.

* All the killer's phone calls were really done by Roger Jackson on set with a cell phone. At one point, the crew were contacted by the police demanding to know who they were because they thought there was a real killer making the phone calls.

* Tatum says that the situation is like a Wes Carpenter film. This is a reference to Wes Craven, who directed the movie, and John Carpenter, who directed Halloween (1978), which is featured in the movie.

* Stu's line "I always had a thing for ya, Sid!" and Sidney's response "In your dreams!" were ad-libbed by Matthew Lillard and Neve Campbell.

* Contains spoilers for Friday the 13th (1980).

* Courteney Cox and David Arquette met and fell in love on the set of this movie. They eventually married.

* Body Count: 7

* Freddie Prinze Jr. auditioned for the role of Stu.

* When the phone slips out of Billy's hand and hits Stu's head, it was completely unintentional. Wes Craven kept it in because of Stu's realistic reaction.

* Justin Shenkarow loved the screenplay so much that he elected to take a minor behind-the-scenes role. His name appears 25th from the bottom of the credits.

* The death of Principal Himbry was added to the film after Bob Weinstein noticed that there was about 30 pages in the script where nobody died and told Kevin Williamson that "somebody must die". Subsequently, the addition of the scene gave Kevin Williamson a good reason to have all the party guests leave the party near the climax.

* Before the principal dies he goes out and finds the janitor named Fred dressed in a red and green sweater, reference to Freddy Krueger from _A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)_.

* In the scene where he is alone in his office, Henry Winkler, who plays the principal, looks in the mirror and strokes his hair to make it look right. This is play on his mannerisms from "Happy Days" (1974) in which Fonzie would look in a mirror, start to comb his hair only to realize his hair is already perfect.

>>> WARNING: Here Be Spoilers <<<

Trivia items below here contain information that may give away important plot points. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title.

* SPOILER: Dewey (David Arquette) was supposed to die from the stab wound to the back. Director Wes Craven filmed the scene at the end of the film, where Dewey is alive and being taken to the hospital, just in case he changed his mind about killing Dewey. The screen-test audience loved the character Dewey so much that Craven decided to add his survival scene in the final cut. If you watch closely during the part where Gale (Courtney Cox) is knocked out by Billy (Skeet Ulrich), you can see that Dewey is not breathing when Gale lands on him because Dewey was intended to be dead. Every time Dewey is shown after he is stabbed before the final scene is intended to be his dead body, not him lying unconscious.

* SPOILER: There are 7 deaths in the movie (8 With Maureen): Maureen Prescott, Steven, Casey, The Principal, Tatum, Kenny, Stu (2nd Killer), Billy (1st Killer).

Scream Goofs

  • Factual errors: The police station is supposedly on a one-way street, but a sign reading "Slow School X-ing" indicates traffic travels in both directions.

Continuity: Length of the sheriff's cigarette during the conversation with the deputy.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs: The body on top of the van slides onto the windshield not because of Gale's sudden stop but because she went quickly into reverse.

Continuity: The bloodstain after Billy gets stabbed.

Audio/visual unsynchronized: When the police arrest Billy after Sid's first attack, they place him in the car and close the car door, in which the windows are closed. After they've driven off, Sheriff and Dewey go to check on Sid and in the background we can still hear Billy calling out for Sid crying out "SID!"

  • Factual errors: At the end of the film, Gail is holding a microphone while reporting the news, but as the camera zooms back a person is holding a boom microphone, which is not needed when using a hand-microphone.

Continuity: When the party guests are watching Halloween, they watch the part when Michael is staring at Bob after he has stabbed him and his body is hanging from the wall. Then Randy pauses it, and the part he pauses it at is Michael holding up the knife to stab Bob, which of course, happens before the part they have already watched.

Continuity: When Stu is setting up Sidney's dad to be framed, you can see him put the cell phone in front of the voice changer box in his pocket. But when it cuts back and her dad is pushed to the floor, you see the cell phone is now behind the voice changer box.

Revealing mistakes: When Billy gets "stabbed" by the killer it shows the killer wiping off the knife but right after it shows blood still on the knife. Then he wipes it off again.

  • Miscellaneous: When Randy and friends are watching horror movies, Randy says, "She always outsmarted the killer during the big chase seen. Virgins always do that." However, when Kenny and Gale watch the footage on their hidden camera, the sentences have been shortened to, "The virgin always outsmarts the killer in the big chase scene."

Revealing mistakes: Obvious stunt double when Sidney is attacked for the first time and knocked to the floor.

Crew or equipment visible: When Billy is being put into the cop car.

Continuity: When Stu is talking to Sidney at near the end of the movie, he hands the phone to Billy, who gets mad and throws it back at Stu. The phone is shown that it hits him and falls to the ground but when Stu picks it back up to talk on it, its on the counter and easier for him to pick up.

Audio/visual unsynchronized: Gale Weathers leaves the cameraman in the back of the truck she is heard to say "I'll be right back", but her lips say something like "keep watching".

Continuity: When Tatum is locked in the garage she reaches up to hit the garage door button to get out with her left hand because the beer bottles are in her right. On the close-up of her hand pushing the button it's her right that hits it.

Continuity: After Casey is stabbed the first time she knocks the knife out of the killer's hands, causing him to start strangling her with both hands. When she fights him off, the knife is suddenly back in his hand again.

Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Dewey gets stabbed in the back, Sidney mouths "No!" but says "Dewey!"

Continuity: Sidney's left sleeve while on the phone at 7:15.

Continuity: Sidney's police jacket at police station.

Continuity: No open handicap stall when Sidney enters school bathroom.

Continuity: The amount of blood on the knife in garage after cutting Tatum.

  • Continuity: The number of standing beers on table during the "rules" speech.

Continuity: The white car disappears when running Dewey and Gale off the road.

  • Crew or equipment visible: Reflected in the door window when leaving the police station.

  • Crew or equipment visible: Shadow in the school bathroom.

Continuity: The amount of paper on the floor, around the trash can, in the school bathroom.

Continuity: The placement of hanging clothes in the principal's closet.

Crew or equipment visible: Reflection in window of the opening sequence.

  • Boom mic visible: As Sidney is walking up the side porch, after getting off the bus, a boom mic shadow is visible near her hand.

Revealing mistakes: When a guy walks out of the shop that closes its door because of the curfew, the reflection in the shop door shows him walk past the camera and stop.

  • Continuity: At Stu's party, everyone watches Halloween (1978). However, the scenes shown from that movie do not correlate with the time passing in this movie. For example, the time between Laurie finding her friends murdered and the "closet scene" is ten to twelve minutes in Halloween; in this movie, closer to 30 minutes elapse.

  • Continuity: Randy says "Here comes the obligatory tit shot" while watching Halloween (1978) and everyone cheers, supposedly at the sight of breasts, but the scene they are watching at that precise moment doesn't show nudity. The girl's breasts in Halloween aren't revealed until a later scene (and, some claim, not at all in the video version).

  • Continuity: When the character is killed in the garage, both of her arms hang in mid air, but when Sidney finds her dead, only one of her arms his hanging down.

  • Continuity: When Dewey walks into the party, he takes a beer bottle from a teenager, he then gives it back but in the next shot he still has it.

Revealing mistakes: The shadow of the dummy's feet used when the character gets stuck in the garage is visible before the scene takes place.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Gale discovers Kenny on the roof, she starts to drive in a circle and says "Oh God. Kenny I'm sorry, but get off my fucking windshield!" but her lips aren't moving.

  • Continuity: When Casey sees Steve on the patio, the killer tells her to turn off the light. You see the shadow fall across his face. Yet when the camera flashes to Steve just before he's killed, we see the already turned-off light go off again.
Continuity: When Casey is making popcorn, she puts the salt shaker next to the stove, and leaves the kitchen. When she comes back the shaker isn't there.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Billy says, "...and if you get it right, you die," Stu bumps in to the camera making it shake.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Casey is running to lock her front door, you can see the shadow of some equipment on the wall as she is running around the corner.

  • Continuity: Immediately prior to Sidney being attacked for the first time, the clock shows around 7:15pm and outside is pitch black. Later in the film we see the shopkeepers closing up for the curfew (9pm) while it is still broad daylight.

  • Continuity: When the killer is chasing Casey outside her house, the part of the mask that hides his neck is grey. But when the killer is strangling Casey on the grass, the neck part is jet-black and the face of the mask is also wider.

  • Continuity: When Casey is making the popcorn, she starts pulling the cover off with her left hand near the handle. In the next shot she is seen using her right hand pulling the paper cover from the other side.

  • Continuity: When Sidney looks out from her window and says, "Well I call your bluff." She then opens the door, and apparently opens the door to where it's facing towards the outside. But when she steps out, the door is facing inwards, into the house.

  • Continuity: When Tatum is getting beers from the refrigerator in the garage, she is seen grabbing beers and holding them in her right arm. When she's done, she is originally seen from behind holding a beer in her left hand, and closing the door with her forearm, but then it switches shots, and her left and is holding two beers with her hand tucked into her arm, and closing the refrigerator door with her foot.

  • Continuity: At the end of the movie when Gale Weathers is holding the gun in the kitchen, you can clearly hear the sound of the hammer being pulled before the camera goes to her. However, when the camera shows a view from behind, you can see the hammer on the gun is still up and not in a firing position. Also, on the standard Beretta 92FS handgun, the hammer is unable to cocked back with the safety on, as Billy stated it was. Furthermore, when the safety is on, the trigger will pull freely. When Gale tried pulling the trigger, she encountered resistance.

  • Crew or equipment visible: Near the end, when Sidney's dad crashes through the door tied up, you can see a crew member pushing mops/brooms etc out after he falls (better spotted when paused and pressing frame advance button).

  • Crew or equipment visible: The camera crew is briefly visible in the reflection of the television after Dewey turns it off at breakfast, the morning after Sydney stayed at Tatum and Dewey's house.

  • Continuity: The billboards and banner in Cotton's home indicate that "100% Cotton comes on at 3:30 PM". When Cotton comes home from the traffic jam, 100% Cotton is on the television. Yet it is pitch black outside.

  • Continuity: When Sydney is at the school bathroom sink her bracelet continually moves from one wrist to the other in between cuts.

Plot holes: Just after Randy has explained the rules, Dewey goes up to the van and asks Gale if she wants to check out a sighted car, she agrees and says "I'll be right back". Even though she has broken a rule, she survives all three movies. And she originally said "keep watching", so there was no need to change it.

  • Continuity: When Tatum throws the beer bottles at the killer in the garage, they break and wet his costume, but when the killer runs and falls over her, his costume is suddenly dry.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When Casey runs into the kitchen after her boyfriend Steve is killed, The smoke alarm sounds like a fire truck siren. Much later, when Casey's Mother and Father come into the kitchen, the smoke alarm is making a "beeping" sound. This because many smoke alarm will do that when the battery gets weak. After whaling the full siren alarm, the battery got weak and the sound changed to the beeping sound.

  • Continuity: Immediately prior to Sidney being attacked for the first time, the clock shows around 7.15pm and outside is pitch black, meaning the sun has set. Later in the film we see the shopkeepers closing up for the curfew (9pm) while it is still broad daylight.

  • Continuity: When the principal goes to open the door the first time. The door opens left to right (the hinges are on the right side.) When he closes it he closes it left to right (the hinges are on the left side).

>>> WARNING: Here Be Spoilers <<<

Goofs below here contain information that may give away important plot points. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: In the end, there are no cuts or stab marks on Stu after Billy stabs him many times.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: When Tatum dies her head is seen being squished completely but later when Sidney finds her body, her head is still there and her neck is being squished.

Alternate Versions

  • German DVD/VHS releases by VCL/MAWA were offered in two versions: the uncut 'Not under 18' version and a cut version which misses ca. 4 minutes and has a 'Not under 16' rating.

  • Japenese Region 2 DVD includes the NC-17 Uncut version and R Rated version.

  • A video version released in late 1997 includes some of the cut footage. There is also a boxed set with the widescreen version, as well as a widescreen version with commentary that does not include the extra footage.

  • Video Director's Cut on VHS removes a brief scene showing Stu saying "yesssss" and moving his arm after the announcement that the school has been closed.

  • Version shown on USA cable network Starz is cut for violence (using a freeze-frame, for example, for the scene where Casey looks at Steve's guts).

  • What's called "Director's Cut" in Germany is the normal R-rated version, not the real "Director's Cut". The real "Director's Cut" was released on DVD in 2005 by Kinowelt Home Entertainment.

  • In the VHS copy of Scream, like the deleted Matthew Lillard "yess!", there is about 1 or 2 seconds missing from Tatums death scene. In the theatrical release an above shot of Tatums head coming toward the camera, cut to her POV of the garage rafters before her head is Flattened. In the VHS release her POV is deleted. In the opening scene, in the theatrical release the zoom in on Casey's corpse was time compressed, when released on video it is at normal speed. The sound however has not been altered. The thunder crash and Her mother scream stop a great deal before the cut and lightening on screen. In the next scene to make up for the time, the sound of Sidney typing is looped twice before the picture pops back up.

  • The US LaserDisc version contains the director's cut with ca. 20 seconds of restored footage that was originally cut to avoid being slapped with the NC-17 by the MPAA. It also has commentary by director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson. In the commentary, Craven notes five places where his cut differs from the theatrical release:

    • Steve's guts are shown pouring out of him as Casey looks on. In the released version, the very last few moments of this are shown.

    • Casey hanging from the tree was time compressed in the film release (it is at normal speed here).

    • When Tatum meets her death by garage door, her head is shown, very briefly being flattened.

    • After Kenny the cameraman's throat is cut, he stares at the blood on his hand after touching his neck, and then looks up at the killer.

    • Billy clearly loses control as he delivers his final cuts to Stuart.

    • After Billy and Stuart have finished stabbing each other, there is a shot of Stu's hand dripping blood into a puddle, with Sydney's father looking on.
